Copenhagen: 6/11/09 - 6/26/09

Well we all arrived in Copenhagen safely on Friday morning.

The weather was rainy and in the 50s.

The program we are a part of is DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad). Over the first weekend, our days consisted of orientations, walking tours of the city, a program meal, kayak adventure in the canals and tour of the DIS facilities. We were able to meet many of the other U.S. students taking courses here as well.

Since our class did not start until Tuesday, we decided to head to Malmo, Sweden by train. It was a short trip from the main station taking only 30 minutes. Once there, we explored all day seeing some very interesting sites: Malmo Castle, Science and Maritime House, Swedish Stadium (Site of 2009 U-21 World Cup games), Malmo Chocolate Factory and St. Peter's Church. We also stumbled upon a Iranian protest, but moved through that very quickly. We obviously did not understand what exactly was going on, but sensed it was not a joyful event.

Once classes started on Tuesday, our free time was cut short. We are taking a course called Trading and Markets taught by a UVA professor. There are about 30 students in the class with a large continegent from UVA. Vanderbilt, UIC, Purdue, Wittenburg and other schools are represented as well.

Our mornings consist of lecture, 9:30-12:15. After lunch we use an investing simulation until about 3pm. We work on assignments until about 4:30 and then head to the train station. On the way home, we usually pick up food at the grocery and cook a big dinner together in our Kollegium (Danish type dorm). Ours is about a 20 minute train from the city center.

Today, we have finished the final exam and are preparing to leave for Manchester in the morning.

Stay tuned!
